It is recommended you place the manual in a three-ring binder with dividers. Place the dividers between each section. There will be a total of six sections including the Appendix. To understand ALL of the material in this manual, you MUST have a copy of NFPA 110. The applicable paragraphs of NFPA 110 appear throughout the text and are differentiated and separated from other text in the following format. It is the responsibility of the student to review each of the paragraphs referenced.
NFPA 110, 8.4.8: EPSS components shall be maintained and tested by qualified person(s).
NFPA 110, 8.3.1*: The EPSS shall be maintained to ensure to a reasonable degree that the system is capable of supplying service within the time specified for the type and for the time duration specified for the class.
NFPA 110, A.8.3.1: The suggested maintenance procedure and frequency should follow those recommended by the manufacturer. In the absence of such recommendations, Figure A.8.3.1(a) and Figure A.8.3.1(b) indicate alternate suggested procedures.
References to NFPA 110, Appendix A, are also included (ex: NFPA 110, A.8.3.1 above). The appendix material in NFPA 110 is not a requirement. Explanatory material is included in NFPA 110 for informational purposes only.
ATTENTION: HEALTH CARE FACILITIES
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires compliance with NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, 2012 edition and NFPA 110, Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems, 2010 edition. Health Care requirements will be differentiated and separated from other text in the following format. If there are differences between the 2010 and 2016 edition of NFPA 110, the 2010 text will be referenced as below. It is recommended you have a copy of NFPA 99, 2012 edition, as well.
NFPA 99, 188.8.131.52.1.4(c): Test Personnel. The scheduled tests shall be conducted by competent personnel to keep the machines ready to function and, in addition, serve to detect causes of malfunction and to train personnel in operating procedures.
NFPA 110, 8.4.8: The routine maintenance and operational testing program shall be overseen by a properly instructed individual.
