In order to bring some sensibility to “inspections,” I proposed a change in the NFPA 110 standard which was approved during the proposal process for the 2022 edition, and edited to read as follows:
generator set EPS is used for standby power or for peak load shaving, such use shall be recorded and shall be permitted to be substituted for scheduled operations and testing of the generator set EPS, providing the same record as required by 8.3.4.
The Committee Statement: The language has been revised to clarify that the EPS is intended to be inspected weekly not the EPSS.
Author’s Note: The term EPS (Emergency Power Supply) will probably now be used by more AHJs instead of “generator”. I think the term EPSS (Emergency Power Supply System) will also gain some notoriety.
