Program Details

The CEPP program is 100% online and self-paced. Complete the training on your schedule from any device — no travel, no classroom scheduling required.

Course Format

Self-paced video modules with comprehensive written content, downloadable maintenance forms and checklists, and integrated NFPA code references. Includes practice questions.

Certification Exam

50-question timed, open-book, online assessment. Multiple choice and true/false. You have two hours to complete it. Minimum score of 70% to pass. Two attempts included.

Recommended Resources

All instructional content is provided. For the open-book exam, we recommend having copies of NFPA 110 (2025) available for reference.

Certification & Credential

Passing candidates receive the CEPP® credential and certificate. Use the designation in professional communications — business cards, letterhead, directory listings, and email signatures.

Renewal

Certification is valid for three years. Certificate holders can renew online. Certificate holders will log in to their Training account to check certification status and enroll if necessary.

Access and Completion

Candidates have one year from enrollment to complete the training and pass the exam. Immediate access upon payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the prerequisites for enrolling? +
There are no prerequisite work experience requirements. The CEPP program is open to any individual seeking to demonstrate competency with emergency and standby power applications — including facility directors, engineers, maintenance staff, electrical contractors, and consulting engineers.
What is included in the $495 program fee? +
The fee covers the complete online training program with video modules and written content, downloadable maintenance forms and checklists, practice questions, the certification exam, and the CEPP® designation and certificate upon passing.
What is the format of the certification exam? +
The exam is a timed, open-book, online assessment consisting of 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions. You have two hours to complete it. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass. We recommend having copies of NFPA 110 (2025 Edition) available during the exam.
What happens if I don't pass the exam? +
You have two attempts to pass the exam. If you do not achieve a passing score on the first attempt, you can retake the exam after ten business days. Contact Motor and Generator Institute to schedule your retake. Your score report will indicate which content areas to review before retesting.
How long do I have to complete the course? +
You have one year from enrollment to complete the training program and pass the certification exam. The program is entirely self-paced — complete it on your schedule from any device with an internet connection.
How do I renew my certification? +
Certification is valid for three years. Certificate holders can renew online. Certificate holders will log in to their Training account to check certification status and enroll if necessary.
Can I use the CHEPP® designation professionally? +
Yes. Once certified, you may use the CEPP® designation in professional communications including letterhead, stationery, business cards, directory listings, and email signatures.
How does group enrollment work? +
